Yarm Wellness, a charity set up to combat the social effects of Covid-19 on the local area, has won a £250 grant from the Venator Community Fund.

The charity, which launched in April 2022, aims to support local people suffering from social isolation and loneliness. It does this through offering a range of classes and services such as toddlers’ play group, veterans’ breakfast, lunch club and craft and chat.

The funding from the Venator Community Fund has gone towards creating a free mental health group called ‘Manter’, which focuses on bringing men together to chat over a cup of tea and cake.

Emma Tompkins, Head of Fundraising at Yarm Wellness, said: “We really feel men’s mental health needs attention in our area which is why we decided to use the grant to set up this group. The money has been really valuable in allowing us to provide resources and support which weren’t largely available before.

“Our key focus is social inclusion and community, so receiving a grant from the Venator Community Fund has been a huge help in allowing us to continue our work supporting people of all ages across Yarm.”
